MoneyWalk 24c Organize Records & Balance Checkbooks

This program will help you undo financial bondage.

Worksheets with instructions for balancing your checkbook against your checking account is readily available from your bank or credit union and easy to follow when performed monthly on a step-by-step basis. Make sure you have online access to bank / credit union account statements. If not, keep at least one-year of paper statements in a file. Those for different banks should be kept in their own folder by year and month issued, from January thru December.

If you have never balanced your checkbook against your check-ing account or have not balanced them in a long time, you should make an appointment with a bank / credit union repre-sentative to have them go over the balancing method so you know exactly where your funds stand. You will need the accurate account balance (that accounts for all checks and other obliga-tions written on the account that have not yet been paid) to en-sure an accurate account of your balance each month going for-ward. This helps you maintain a tight rein on your account so that money is not leaking out and thus can be used to propel you for-ward in greater giving, saving/investing, and wealth building.

Failing to regularly balance checkbooks against checking ac-counts keeps many people in a continual pattern of paying insuf-ficient funds fees and other charges and never having mishaps corrected. In most instances, if you wait too long to report a mis-hap you may never be able to get it corrected in your favor. You will lose the withdrawals that you failed to catch in a timely man-ner. You should want to make sure all money that is supposed to be deposited actually is in your account and that no money is withdrawn from your account except that which you acknowledge should be withdrawn.

When you get the budget process rolling along, your ongoing budget should mimic your checkbook ledger. When you are im-mediately recording deposits and withdrawals (including checks written) and consistently paying bills when due, you are on a path to alleviating financial bondage and correcting past irre-sponsible loan payment histories. Over the next year or so, your credit history and score will get much better and even more so as you press forward to pay more than the minimum due on monthly bills and to totally eliminate all debt.
