The bible says true religion is helping meet needs of orphans and widows. It also tells us to not to provide resources to able-bodied freeloaders and the slothful who will not lift a finger to help themselves. The Holy Spirit teaches believers to discern those who are truly needy versus those who are simply greedy, lazy, and manipulative. When individuals can properly discern the difference, leaders that come from among us, who serve in Churches, governments, and other organizations, can identify qualifications that help us separate the truly needy (who will receive help) from others who feel entitled to money and resources the LORD entrusts to us but are not really qualified to receive it.
Physical and material social services was not the primary aim of Jesus Christ and the disciples. Their mission was to intimately know Father God and to publish the Gospel of Jesus Christ so others could also know Him in this way and thus have a home in Heaven. Yet, their faith produced actions that indeed helped many (salvation, healing, and deliverance) while at the same time discerning and teaching other disciples (and those of us to come later) which types of needs they should not give earthly resources toward and which life circumstances would meet qualifications for benevolence. In this way, to give or not to give would aim people at doing what is necessary to correct their spiritual course while also meeting earthly needs.
If we understand that God can lead us when we continually ask for His guidance then we will understand and know that scripture is telling us that God will also help us form appropriate help (projects, plans, etc.) for the needy in every organizational arena (family, neighborhood, business, church, governments, etc.). He will help us set qualifications that largely avoid benefitting the wicked, the greedy, the lazy, and the immoral who do not want to change. He will also help us understand the resources that should be expended and the time limits for such help.
With God all things are possible! When we live in accordance with His will we will prosper and help others do so. He blesses us to be a blessing and it comes to pass in every corridor of life when He is our focus. Lord, in my beliefs and actions, let Your will be done in Earth even as it is in Heaven!
