You have probably heard the acronym Y2K. It describes the scenario many people thought would cripple the world in the year 2000 and bring about a catastrophe in world economic markets, recordkeeping arenas, etc. based on their expectation that computer systems would fail because programmers allowed only two digits of in the year field. Computer chaos would ensue at 12 AM in the year 2000 and it would take a long time to correct the problems and make computers and the data in them useful again. 

Everything from massive computer systems at big corporations to microwaves and TV’s were supposed to be negatively affected. The prediction did not come to pass, yet it was a real enough threat that many people planned what they would do in case it occurred. A very good principle to live by is to prepare for rainy days because you know they will come at various periods throughout your life, such as economic depressions and recessions. It seems there historically has been at least one each decade producing massive bankruptcies, foreclosures, repossessions, poverty, and homelessness.

You don’t know when rainy days will come, but you shouldn’t overlook the fact that they will come and do what is spiritually and financially reasonable to help you get through the rainy day. The LORD helps you conquer negative effects of crises when you consult Him, seek scriptural instruction, and plan as best you can to handle them.

Obey good stewardship instructions during the many years you do not experience a crisis. Budgeting, saving emergency funds, earning extra income, eliminating debt, investing, and diversifying assets are necessary processes for overcoming costs that would otherwise put you in financial bondage when crises occur. Your testimony and example will position you for many opportunities to share the gospel with others, leading them to the LORD and showing them His path to a better spiritual and financial future.

No matter what it seems like now, you will find crevices, cracks, and wide-open pathways into peoples’ lives that can lead them to Jesus. It takes believing, planning, and action to bring results He desires. Miraculous conquests and great reward are allotted to those who do so because He turns what the devil means for bad into good for you and me.

Likewise, to get financial results desired for your life, you need to believe biblical financial principles. Then, draft a written plan that details how you’ll earn, tithe / give, save & invest, and spend your income each month for several years into the future. He will speak to your inner man and use others to provide insight that will help you tweak your plan from time to time to show you how to get the most out of the money entrusted to you. By taking action to become a good steward you will experience freedom from financial bondage and a greatly improved financial condition. This puts you in position to be a greater blessing to your local church, surrounding community, and world missions.

MoneyWalk 79 What To Do About Christmas?

This program will help you undo financial bondage.

You should identify a Christmas spending strategy so failure to plan won’t load you with more debt. Don't let the emotions that well up during this season bamboozle you into a spending spree that you'll later regret. Unfortunately, many people go into the season without planning how much they’re going to spend or how they're going to divvy it up among family and friends. Decide in your heart and mind that the thought is what counts and spend only what you have available in cash after you’ve given tithes and offerings to your local church, after you’ve set aside reasonable savings, and after the amount needed to pay monthly bills is set aside. 

Draft a Christmas budget that identifies available cash and identify how much you’ll spend on each person. When necessary to stay within the budget, shop at discount stores that sell nice cards and gifts. If you’re not be able to give everyone or anyone a gift because you don’t have the money to do so, then give them an inexpensive card showing the true meaning of Christmas – Jesus Christ having come to earth in human form to be crucified as an offering for our sin so we can be saved, made acceptable to the Father, and enabled to spend eternity with Him.

True friends and family that really love you understand friendship is not all about cards and gifts. They don't get mad because you didn’t give them any, nor do they accept or reject you based on how much you paid for something you give them. Let them know you’re working to get your finances into good shape, so you can be a good steward of money and resources the LORD entrusts to you. Those who refuse to understand are not yet true friends. It may take some time being a good steward and reaching out in friendship in other ways for them to understand what Christmas and friendship are really about.

Use the same type of budgeting process / spending plan for other special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc. With this focus you will continuously learn more of what He desires. This will make you a better steward. People who want to be true friends will draw near to you and learn to have their eyes on things in life that really matter. Remember, poverty and disgrace are the reward of people who do not follow God’s instruction, but the person who heeds His instruction will be honored & blessed.

You no longer have to feel left out, unloved, without purpose, and unfulfilled. When you let the Holy Spirit guide you, no area of your life is exempt from being used successfully by Christ to fulfill His purpose for you and mankind. Thanksgiving takes many forms and includes thanking God with money and resources. This program will help you undo financial bondage.

God desires that you walk in accordance with His principles. He does not want you to experience any deterrent to properly caring for yourself, your family, your local church, and other people He assigned to you. Following biblical principles, you’ll be able to fulfill your purpose in the earth. One principle is to pay tax legally assigned by your governments, when it is within your power to do so. He makes a way for you to pay them while also allowing you to meet every responsibility assigned to you.

Some claim you should only show allegiance to God and therefore resist paying tax. However, this is a faulty mindset that will keep you in bondage to satan, captive to his will, and in financial bondage. There are people and rogue organizations who encourage you to be rebellious and ignorant of biblical instruction and blessings attached to it. They don’t want you to trust that the LORD will provide all you need when you pay tax or otherwise do what He says. They would have you believe taxes are an unlawful confiscation of money. However, if believed, the underlying problem is you idolize money God provides and consider it more important than obeying Him. He set life up on Earth to have limited governmental authority. Taxing is one area they have a right to prescribe. Thus, you ought to pay taxes to whom taxes are due. Those who resist such God-given authority resist Him and experience problems down the road.

When you refuse to trust God by honoring His financial principles, including paying tax that you rightfully owe, you negate His power that would help you fulfill your purpose and show others how men’s worst decisions (sometimes taxation levels, etc.) cannot overcome the blessing of God in a life that is obedient to His commands. The best answer to over-taxation by a government entity is praying for God to give legislators wisdom to enact the best laws and correct or eliminate current laws that are harmful to citizens.  You should also periodically mail letters to legislators and sign petitions designed by reputable organizations that agree with biblical teaching about how legislators should govern.

Last but not least, it is within the bounds of godliness to use all legally acceptable methods necessary to lower the amount of taxes you owe governments. However, you should follow Jesus example and pay what is legally required when due, when you have the ability to do so. The LORD will provide all your need and beyond as you move forward living by His will and instructions.

Work is tedious to our decaying bodies because Adam forsook the abundance of the LORD's favor and everlasting life in his physical body by eating of the forbidden fruit. Yet, God still looks upon work as an integral part of mankind’s mission to take dominion in the Earth.

Work should be engaged to please Father God, to allow the Holy Spirit to guide and train us to use our gifts and build skill in our endeavors, and to be Jesus’ hands, feet, and mouthpiece on Earth. Through this attitude, we build treasures in Heaven and when work flows from our faith in Him, we experience pleasure even in the toil while the things it allows us to obtain are a blessing to us and others.

Solomon and the Apostle Paul confirmed the natural and spiritual repercussions of laziness and irresponsibility toward work. The diligent person shall live blessed and rewarded, while a person who doesn't work will not have enough food, money, and resources to properly care for his or her God-given responsibilities. So as not to be like heathens, men should be engaged in godly types of work that are profitable in order to care for themselves and their family. This sets the example for others in the home to follow. Proverbs 31 shows that spiritual women also engage godly and profitable endeavors that benefit their husbands and children. 

Abstaining from all forms of work is not healthy for your body or good in God's sight. Yet, scripture does not prohibit you from moving to a different stage of life in which you stop working a customary forty plus hours per week. You can choose to work less hours if you are in the position to do so or particular personal or family needs make it wise for you to do so.

You are free to retire from your present line of work granted you understand the Holy Spirit already called you to another field of work where you will overtly and covertly build God’s kingdom through your communication, interaction, and resources. You have much work remaining as a member of and co-laborer in the body of Christ. His love in you and your love for Him should motivate you to work as unto the LORD inside and outside your local Church to evangelize unbelievers and make disciples throughout the course of your life, regardless of whether you earn income doing so or not. Let retirement be your refirement years, where He puts a flame in your heart to continue to do good works for which you were created in Christ Jesus.

No matter where you are, salvation by faith in Him alone brings new life that can begin for you right now. You will be cleansed from all unrighteousness upon repenting and putting faith in Him.

He loves you and wants the best for you throughout eternity. However, you must start by putting your trust in Him and what He already accomplished through His death, burial, and resurrection. He made you with a godly purpose that cannot be fully utilized without His guidance. He's calling you out of darkness into His marvelous light. So, confess faith in acceptance of His calling.

The LORD will be pleased and the Church will rejoice with the angels in Heaven on your behalf. Those who are saved are led by the Holy Spirit and empowered to take action that brings forth good fruit. They do so by learning and employing biblical principles to govern their lives and financial affairs. The sooner you come to Christ, the sooner you can reap the benefit of this eternal inheritance that also benefits you for the relatively short time you’ll be on Earth.
