MoneyWalk 168 Tithing By Faith

This program will help you undo financial bondage.

Some people despise tithing, believing it to be under the Old Testament law and done away by the New Testament. They do not believe tithing is a priority in a Christian’s life nor that it pleases God and helps His will be done in our communities and around the world. Some judge preachers to be non-Christian, heretics, money-grubbers, and Hell-bound when they teach tithing as a current practice. There are con artists in every profession and we need to avoid them, however teaching tithing does not make a preacher a scammer. With all the vitriol it's no surprise that less than 90% of regular church attendees tithe and 37% do not give any more than a few dollars per year for ministry efforts. Average giving is at an all-time low of less than 2% of annual income. Even with giving at such a low level, most people expect a lot from the Church when they and others in the community have problems. They believe it should meet all needs when their personal financial situation is in turmoil. Many expect the church to do much while they are unwilling to give a proportionate share of income to the church to help it do so. Yet, they’re more than willing to consume upon their own lusts, spending for their desires the lion’s share of money God entrusts to them. It seems they should be more than willing to give the share instructed by faith toward spreading the gospel throughout the earth (evangelizing) and toward discipling believers to sharpen one another for the work of ministry.

Certainly, the Lord can move supernaturally to accomplish His will, yet He chose believers as His body that would bring forth His will in the earth by doing things like tithing and abundant giving and being involved in the church and in the marketplace in ways that accomplishes His purpose. Scripture shows His super power is ushered in by our natural obedience in following His principles for living and giving. When a church has an overwhelming number of members who won’t tithe and give offerings then that local body will be limited in the endeavors and services it can provide members and outsiders. And, it will generally be limited in ushering in God’s supernatural power to help accomplish purpose He desires it to pursue. The lack of supernatural power in one’s life or church is not a result of the dollar amount of money one gives or that the church collects. However, it can often be linked to lack of obedience in following biblical instruction regarding tithing and offering.

Before the law was written, Abraham (the father of our faith) tithed and taught his offspring to be faithful in all things that honor the Lord. We are not under the Old Testament and thus are not responsible for giving the three types of tithes required by that law. In the present age we will not be stricken by God for failing to tithe. Yet, this should not lead anyone to think He desires that we do less in New Testament times to spread His Word. The end of this present age is near and funding of ministry will help determine whether people hear the gospel, come to Him, inherit eternal life, and thus bypass Hell. Both Old and New Testament scripture shares Abraham’s example of his tithe to Melchizedek the high priest (a signification of Jesus Christ). Hebrews 7:8 communicates that people give tithes on earth, yet “the One of whom it is witnessed that He lives” receives them. Jesus Christ is the “One” that believers should have a heart to honor by tithing to the church to carry out His work in the Earth.

Tithing does not make you righteous or earn eternal life – Salvation is a gift from Christ received by grace and faith via acceptance of Him as Savior & Lord. However, it is a fruits meet of repentance practice that helps eliminate from your heart the love of money and material things, so you can become disciplined to put a greater focus on using your life and money in ways that glorify Him.

The book at the link below provides principles and practical steps that help you use the Power To Get Wealth. By 1992, we had $135,000 of debt and a negative $35,000 net worth. Financial bondage and turmoil led me to seek principles and a process for employing good stewardship. As a result, we became constructively debt-free in 1998, mortgage free January 2004, millionaires in 2012, multi-millionaires shortly thereafter, and retired in 2018 in my mid-fifties from public servant jobs while giving abundantly to fund the gospel of our LORD Jesus Christ. The same power is available to you!
