MoneyWalk 40 Work As Unto The LORD
From everlasting, the LORD worked to create everything and set the spiritual and natural realm in motion. Then, He commanded man to work in order to be fruitful; cultivate the soil, raise animals, and engage physical and mental labor in many ways. Adam and Eve’s worship, including their work, was totally enjoyable.
After Adam chose to sin, he and his seed would eat by the sweat of their brow. Though work would still be enjoyable in many ways the deteriorating conditions that sin caused man to live in on earth would make work more physically and mentally demanding and unpleasant, in some instances.
When He disobeyed the LORD’s command not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good & Evil, the perfect communion they had was broken. Adam and his progeny could fail to seek Him and thus choose work not within the LORD’s plan for fulfilling their purpose. Even if they ultimately moved into the types of work intended, they might operate in unclean motives, attitudes, and actions or utilize the fruit thereof (income and products) for ungodly purposes (funding abortion, supporting sexually immoral lifestyles, criminal activities, etc.). This lets believers know we must choose to do types of work and engage activities that are not immoral while having an attitude and way of doing things that glorify Him.
There is a truth about work that remains constant from the time man was created and given the task of tending the garden and throughout believer’s everlasting future with the LORD; a person will always be fulfilled and thus have peace and joy when working as unto the LORD in the calling whereunto he is called by God. Scripture confirms the diligent person shall have everything needed to fulfill his/her purpose and one who is lazy will not have things necessary for fulfillment, joy, and peace on Earth!
There is an abundance of scripture confirming you should engage work (both physical and mental) for as long as you live. Total abstinence from work is not healthy for your body and mind. Lack of challenging work and daily regimen can bring about sickness, mental illness, and premature death. Therefore, everyday you’re alive the LORD gives you work to accomplish: physical labor (for producing income, wealth, and gifts), physical / vocal worship, thanksgiving, praise, prayer, bible study, evangelism, disciple-making, fellowship / hospitality, and service within the Church.
There is an abundance of scripture telling you to stay away from lazy, idle, and irresponsible attitudes and behavior during all stages of life. You are not prohibited from moving from one type of work to another as need or ability arises, unless you would engage in a type or manner that is unholy according to scripture or that violates His will communicated to you. You also are not prohibited from taking retirement from a current employer or business as long as you are mindful you should engage reasonable work in another capacity pleasing to the LORD (paid or volunteer). Every moral type of work is worship and performs a godly service when it is committed to Him and engaged in a way that pleases Him.

MoneyWalk 39 What About Retirement?
Old Testament scripture identifies that Levites were to retire from work at the temple when they turned fifty. They could continue to assist to a minor degree. There was no indication scripturally that this scenario applied to other professions. The New Testament indicates every Christian should continue (until his / her last breath) to evangelize, make disciples, and serve others. You may retire from a particular employer or type of work but you should continue working in at least a ministry capacity for the rest of your life.
Unless you want to retire into poverty, you need to employ appropriate financial management tools and processes that help you build an investment portfolio from which you can monthly (for the remainder of your life) withdraw enough money after taxes to cover all needs and at least some desires.
People whose employers provide pensions need not invest as much as those who work for employers that do not provide them. Those eligible to receive Social Security need not invest as much as those who are not eligible for it. People with both do not need to invest as much as those who only have one or the other. Those who have neither pension or Social Security obviously need to invest more than the others because investment income alone would have to cover the entire amount of all their expenses and desires during retirement.
The bottom line is everyone needs to invest a reasonable portion of their income (start with 10%) during working years in vehicles whose historical data prove they provide above average growth (no-load low-expense total stock market index mutual funds, etc.). In retirement, everyone will need to employ a good investment income withdrawal strategy that will last until they leave this Earth. This makes a comfortable, ministry-oriented, well-lived retirement possible.
There is hope if you find yourself in a poor financial situation right now. But you must understand life does not just arrange itself to provide what you need and want without you planning (for some reasonable amount of time) the earning and expending of income. From this point forward, you must budget, set aside emergency funds, eliminate debt, learn to live debt-free, invest, and give in ways that bring supernatural favor. The sooner you start the sooner you will be in position to comfortably retire and meet all expenses thereafter.

MoneyWalk 38 What Is Your Net Worth?
The LORD desires that you have a rich spiritual and natural net worth. Believers in Christ already have the most valuable asset because His worth supersedes all other things they could have or experience while leading them to a purpose-filled life on Earth and a blissful heavenly home thereafter. As part of this He wants an extremely positive number to represent your financial net worth, which is calculated by subtracting your debts from your assets. This is achieved by making intimacy with Him the most important aspect of your life that leads to a commitment to do life and finances His way in accordance with His principles.
Tithing and abundant free-will offering in proportion to income and assets He entrusts to you, use of time and talent to help lead people to Him and do good works, working to become debt-free, saving and investing, and diversifying assets play an important part in the process of growing your net worth while showing your number one priority is Him, which includes His will and way of living and managing money. It doesn’t matter if you are currently no, low, middle, or high income you can use His power inside to engage this lifestyle.
In turn, principles and processes that conform to this lifestyle have the power to provide all you need and many things you desire as well as enough left over to do many other good works. As you go beyond paying to provide your need (place to live, food, clothing, transportation, etc.), recognize the market value of furniture, appliances, clothing, tools, cars, and most other goods and services drop in value drastically, starting shortly after you purchase them. In certain neighborhoods and economic situations, the value of houses, commercial buildings, and land could also drop in value as opposed to the usual appreciation in value that takes place over many years of ownership. This reality of the depreciating value of most material things should help you exercise godly wisdom when making purchases and deciding what is truly worthwhile in life.
Don't put all your effort in accumulating money and goods for earthly purposes. They decay, lose value, and have no eternal worth. Rather, as you go about furthering your career, earning greater income, and building assets in this life make sure you also build treasure in Heaven by giving abundantly to spread the gospel and make disciples of other people. The value of this treasure increases throughout eternity and where your treasure is your heart will be also.
The LORD’s greatest aim for you is to seek a more intimate relationship with Him. Through this fellowship He provide blessings and rewards and motivates you to engage financially sound processes in your life based on biblical principles. Bible accounts of patriarch/matriarchs who amassed wealth (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, David, Hezekiah, Joseph of Arimathea, Lydia, and others) clearly show the LORD wants to help you prosper as you engage intimacy with Him and obedience to His will. This will lead you to start and continue using money in ways that truly glorify Him and benefit you and other people.

MoneyWalk 37 To Truly Succeed You Need Jesus!
It is great to have material things that make your life more comfortable. Most everyone wants a nice house, a classy automobile, and sharp clothes. As a matter of fact, most people have dreamed of being multi-millionaires and search for pathways that can be used to obtain such wealth.
Money is not evil, even though some people have sought and used it to fund immoral lifestyles and endeavors. Money is simply a magnifying glass; having more of it causes you to live on a larger scale where more people can better see your character through the way you spend it, use it, save it, and give it. There are many people who use it to fund endeavors that truly help people and make this world a better place to live.
In the hands of good people, money and material things magnify the fact that they are continually seeking to evangelize and disciple many people to lead them to Christ by helping spread the gospel at home and abroad and supporting charitable causes that honor the LORD. In the hands of ungodly people, money magnifies the fact that they encourage, support, and engage ungodly activities that negatively affect the lives of many others and have no focus on being intimate with the LORD and serving other people in accordance with His standards.
Most people in the United States are rich in comparison to most people that live in other parts of the world. That is why it is best for everyone to understand that deceitfulness of riches does not affect only those they believe have big bucks (high income and/or many assets). Anyone is deceived by it when he/she does not pursue intimacy with the LORD and use money in ways that glorify Him and lead people to Jesus Christ.
Always remain in control of money and never let the spirit of mammon control you, otherwise it will progressively push you out of fellowship and possibly relationship with Him, other people (whose lives He wants you to positively affect now and for eternity), cause you to engage practices that are not good examples to other people (even if on Earth you get riches you want), and pierce your heart with many sorrows and drown you in destruction and perdition. Choose the biblically correct manner of dealing with money by living according to biblical principles, guided by the Holy Spirit, because this will lead to prosperity for you and future generations taking you to the wealthy place.

MoneyWalk 36 Do Not Be Deceived
